Daily Inspirational Message for April 9, 2014
“You have to ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste.”
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The most delicious fruit I ever ate was given to me at a meditation class. The subject was mindfulness, and we were each doled out a single green grape. Instead of just popping them into our mouths and chewing away, we were to touch them and feel their cool smoothness, to smell them, to KNOW those grapes, and only then to take a bite, so that half of the grape was in our hand, and the other half, that indescribably sweet, pulpy green bit of heaven, was dancing on our tongues. It was unlike any grape I could remember eating before. We have become so immune to much that is beautiful and delicious in the world that we don’t know what we’re missing. Only a beginner’s mind can restore the vividness of full experience.
