Daily Inspirational Quote – April 25, 2015

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind, ALWAYS.”

This is so true and something we all need to be more aware of. I firmly believe that everybody has their own story which has shaped and molded them into the person they are and that when we encounter each other we need to remember this. It’s so easy to respond angrily to another’s verbal attack, be impatient with their depressed mood or tendency to look on the dark side, when we are unaware of what they are going through. If we can, and I say “if”, look past their tendency to lash out or anger, and show patience, understanding and kindness, this may be all that is needed to help them feel better and able to deal with their problems, so wouldn’t it make more sense to make this effort?

How To Keep Going

How do you keep going when things get rough? The same way you keep going when things are good, by simply choosing to do it.

The particular conditions of the moment are not that much of a factor. What really matters is the story you are telling yourself.

When you decide to keep going, you will. When you tell yourself that you can, you can.

Life can sometimes be discouraging, with each effort painful and each moment full of difficulty. Yet you can choose to see that difficulty as a stronger reason than ever before to keep going.

If for no other reason, you can keep going just to get some distance beyond where you are now. You can keep going because it’s what you’ve done for a long time, and you’re actually very good at it.

The way to keep going is to keep reminding yourself that you’re independent of any conditions you may face. You can keep going, because that is what you have chosen to do.

Can I Be Fearless?

What's the difference between "be not afraid" and "have no fear"? If fear is a fundamental part of what makes us human, how can we come to better know ourselves and our strengths through the things that make us afraid? Margaret Wheatley ponders these questions and more, pushing us all to be with, rather than be our fears.

Daily Inspirational Quote – April 24, 2015

“The way people treat you is a statement about who they are as a human being. It is not a statement about you.”

Personally, it took me a long time to realize the truth of this. As a Pisces and therefore a Water sign I am very much ruled by my emotions and other people’s perceptions of me impacted deeply. Their actions and words could, even unintentionally, make me doubt myself and my abilities and also cause my feelings to be hurt. A big softy really! However, I have come to the realization that everybody has their own story and their own personal dramas in their life, and that sometimes I was just “in the line of fire.” Now, as well as being a lot more confident in who I am, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt in that they are not presently in a good place, so choose to deflect the “fire” and let it go.

Where To Start

Are you not sure where to start? The place to start is where you are.

Are you having trouble deciding on the first step to take? Just pick a step, take it, and you’ll suddenly be in a much better position to know what must be done next.

Instead of waiting and wondering, speculating and procrastinating, worrying and making excuses, just go ahead and start. Put your time and energy into moving forward.

You may not get it exactly right at first, in fact you probably won’t. Yet even if you make some initial mistakes, that’s a whole lot better than doing nothing.

Start where you are, and go from there. Start where you are, and discover how much you enjoy the effort.

The best way to know what to do next is by doing what you can do now. This is where to start, so do.

Daily Inspirational Quote – April 23, 2015

“Silence is a source of great strength.”

Haven’t we all, at one time or another, had to bite our tongue in order to keep quiet because, we’re in a situation where, if we give vent to what we actually want to say, all hell will break loose? I know I have. Hurtful words said in anger can never be unsaid. Although not easy, taking time to think before we speak in these kind of situations, is the wisest course to take in preventing things from escalating and culminating in a situation that there is no coming back from. This is in no way a sign of weakness but of great strength.

Gift of Achievement

There is a gift you can give yourself at any time, in any place, that will make you feel great. It is the gift of achievement.

Nothing feels quite the same as making the effort that results in achievement. When you make that effort, and reach that achievement, it helps not only you, but the whole world as well.

Achievements can be big, spread over many years and requiring thousands of people. Or they can be much smaller, taking only a few minutes and yet making a real difference.

Yet no matter what size the achievement may be, it always feels great to make a difference. And no matter what situation you are in, there is always a way to make that positive difference.

You can give yourself, and your world, the gift of achievement right now. The more you do so, the more richness and fulfillment you’ll experience.

At its very core, life is about making a difference. Now is a great time to give to yourself, and to everyone else, the gift of achievement.

Daily Inspirational Quote – April 22, 2015

“Be happy for no reason, like a child. If you are happy for a reason, you’re in trouble because that reason can be taken from you.”

Much easier said than done, don’t you think, being happy for no reason? Surely, our happiness depends on reasons presenting themselves and triggering feelings of happiness in us? I feel it’s more that children are not encumbered, as we adults may tend to be, with the worries of daily life, but just take the day as it comes without worrying or stressing about what it may bring. Wonderful eh? Oh that we could be like that again! We have learned over time, however, that the people or things that bring happiness into our lives can, through circumstances out of our control, be taken away from us. It would therefore pay us, if we could, to be happy just for the sake of being happy.

The Lifecycle of Emergence & Scaling Social Innovation

The importance of networking is often strongly emphasized in today's society. But rarely do we think about networks as being something more than the simple connection between individuals. According to Meg Wheatley and Deborah Frieze, there is a transformation that occurs when networks of individuals come together as active communities of practice -- a new system of influence emerges, one through which large-scale change suddenly becomes possible. This article looks into the transformative power of networks and shows us how when it comes to creating community-driven change, the whole is much more than the sum of its parts.

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.”

We all have dreams we want realized in our lives and strive to make these a reality and not just something in our head. Something to aim and hope for can be vital in giving us reasons to keep going through the not so good times. A life without dreams would be a poor life indeed. However, perhaps it would pay us to look deep within ourselves, our very spirit, in order to discover our true goals or reasons to keep going. This deeper insight may be the tool we use to awaken our sense of who we really are and what we actually need in order to awaken us from the sleep of unawareness.

At Peace With the Moment

Frustration is caused by wanting to be where you are not, or to do what you are not doing, or to stop what you are already doing. Enjoy where you are and what you’re doing, and frustration is no more.

Of course it goes against your grain to enjoy something you’ve decided is not enjoyable. But it is not as hard as you might think.

Would you prefer to be frustrated, anxious and inefficient, or would you rather choose to enjoy the moment? Do you want your attitude to work against you, or would you like your attitude to work in your favor?

Can you find it within yourself to be at peace with the moment, with the situation, with the task at hand? Of course you can.

Let your choices, rather than habitual reactions, determine your state of mind. Let yourself be your best by letting go of the need to fight against whatever is going on.

Express your high standards not by getting frustrated, but by getting peacefully and purposefully busy. Be at peace with the moment, and enable yourself to live it a…

The Mysterious History of the Tarot by Susyn Blair-Hunt, MsD

The Tarot is mysterious and fascinating. Often Tarot cards are depicted in films and on television as prophesying death, doom or troubles ahead. Tarot cards have been used as tools of divination for centuries, yet their beginnings remain steeped in speculation and secrecy.

Tarot cards have grown in popularity over the last century, and with hundreds of decks to choose from and more appearing on the market each year, more and more people are becoming drawn to them. Whether you’ve had your cards read by a psychic or happen to be a practicing metaphysician who uses cards regularly yourself, the incredible power of Tarot to outline the past, affirm the present, and illuminate the future is undeniable.

It’s purported that the 78 images contained in a deck of Tarot cards originated from a secret text of the ancient Egyptians known as The Egyptian Book of Life. This was a tome inscribed on stone tablets that was only accessible to the high priests, priestesses and pharaohs of Egypt. In fact, i…

Daily Inspirational Quote – April 20, 2015

“Pay attention to whatever inspires you, for it is “spirit” trying to communicate with you, that’s why it’s called “inspiration” as “inspirit.” Listen to it, believe it, and act on it.”

Basically, this means, don’t dismiss those “coincidences”, signs, etc., you may experience but acknowledge them for what they are and act accordingly. It may be Spirit trying to catch your attention and make you aware of someone or something or an action you need to take. I love it when this happens because it’s validation that a “higher power” has you in it’s sights and is attempting to make something known to you by giving you signs or nudges in the right direction. How special does that make you feel? So never ignore whatever your “gut” is telling you but look forward to something exciting coming forward.

Allow and Accept

Allow the beauty and allow the challenge. Allow the frustration and allow the joy.

Allow the time and people and places and events to come into your life. And allow them to go peacefully on their way.

Allow the ideas, the actions, the creative thoughts and even the disconcerting ones. Accept what happens, and accept that there’s a positive way forward no matter what.

Accept the praise and the criticism of others, allowing yourself to grow stronger and more compassionate as a result. Allow yourself to be inspired and energized by life as it is, however it may be.

Allow the certainty, the confusion, the harmony and the dissonance. Allow what you love and what you do not yet love.

Allow yourself to be, in this unique and magnificent moment. Feel the full power of existence, feel the goodness that is possible, and allow it to come to life.

Daily Inspirational Quote – April 19, 2015

“There is no path to happiness. Happiness is the path.”

Exactly! I couldn’t have said it better myself. Allow happiness to live within and around you as you travel your path in life. Forget trying to find the path to where you think you will find it and instead look within yourself. Each of us is capable of finding and realizing our own personal version of what makes us happy so wouldn’t it benefit us to just concentrate on this rather than spending valuable time searching for something we already possess?

How I Work To Protect Women From Honor Killings

Up until she was 16, Khalida Brohi attempted to heal the sadness she felt when she witnessed atrocities committed on women in her community by crying into her pillow, silently at night, not knowing how else to help. However, a personal tragedy in her life -- the honor killing murder of her close friend -- moved Brohi into fierce action. A teenager herself, Brohi became a champion of women's rights, raising awareness about honor killings, spreading her inspiration door-to-door in her village in Pakistan, and across the world through social media.

In this TEDx talk, Brohi talks about the valuable lessons she and her team at Sughar (her non-profit social enterprise) have learned, about what makes a women's rights campaign truly successful.
