Daily Inspirational Quote January 17, 2015

“On particularly rough days when I’m sure I can’t possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through rough days so far is 100%…. and that’s pretty good.”

Pretty good? I’d say it was fantastic! We can all relate to this quote can’t we? I know I can. What’s the alternative when life strews your path with pain either physical or mental, sorrow, self-doubt, debt, or all the other things that can happen and you need to overcome and deal with. This also often happens when it’s just the latest in a long line of problems just adding to your sense of frustration. However, and here’s the thing to keep in mind, you’ve been here before and everything got sorted didn’t it? You moved on didn’t you? So what’s different this time? Exactly……nothing! Know and believe that it’s going to be ok this time too and it will.

If We Left They Wouldn't Have Nobody

When Valley Springs Manor home for the elderly closed, the staff left, except for cook Maurice Rowland and Miguel Alvarez, the janitor.  "There was about 16 residents left behind." says Rowland.  "If we left, they wouldn't have nobody," adds Alvarez. "I would only go home for one hour, take a shower, get dressed, then be there for 24-hour days." Rowland adds "I just couldn't see myself going home.  Next thing you know, they're in the kitchen trying to cook their own food and burn the place down. Even though they wasn't our family, they were kind of like our family for this short period of time."

Daily Inspirational Quote January 16, 2015

“Be mindful of your self-talk. It’s a conversation with the Universe.”

Most people I know believe that the Universe hears and acknowledges everything we put “out there” and does in fact respond in kind, i.e. send out a positive thought and you get a positive response and, alternatively, put out a negative thought and you get a negative response. That makes sense doesn’t it? So then, being the sensible and intelligent beings we are, we should be extremely mindful in what we say when we converse with ourselves as everything we say will be heard, acted upon and responded to in kind. Surely also it is better to be in a positive frame of mind as this gives us power in believing in our own abilities too which can only help the Universe in helping us. Self-doubt needs to be relegated to a faraway galaxy!

Give Nourishment

Every part of life requires regular nourishment. If anything in your life seems to be going downhill, it is probably not receiving enough good, solid nourishment and positive attention.

You cannot eat one big meal and expect it to last for a week. Not only physical, but also mental and spiritual nourishment must come in continuing portions to support a healthy, fulfilling life.

Nourishment must also be of good quality in order to be beneficial. Just as you can’t expect to live well on junk food, you can’t expect to live a good life in a mentally or spiritually toxic environment.

Nourish your mind, nourish your body and nourish your spirit with quality substance. All that you do on a moment-by-moment basis combines to influence the way your life unfolds.

Every experience, every situation, every tick of the clock is an opportunity to nourish some part of your life. As you go through each day, keep that in mind, and provide your life with good, positive nourishment all along the way.

Three Benefits To Mindfulness At Work

We all know the benefits of mindfulness in our day. But, do we understand the link between our practice and our performance in the workplace? And is it possible to cultivate this moment to moment awareness in a 'bottom line' driven environment? In a recent study, researchers have found that the more mindful the supervisor, the lower their employees' emotional exhaustion and the higher their job satisfaction. And, that's just the beginning. Read on to learn how mindfulness just might help to increase an employee's overall well being.

Daily Inspirational Quote January 15, 2015

“You may not end up where you thought you’d be, but you always end up where you’re meant to be.”

Some of us are surprised or perhaps even shocked by where we find ourselves but, think about it, is it so unexpected? We all have our goals, expectations and dreams on which to focus on and work towards achieving. We form pictures in our minds of our expectations but it doesn’t always work out the way we imagined or planned. Situations, people, obstacles, over which we have no control, can often impact and knock us off course onto a hitherto unknown path to our goals and this effects where and when we ultimately end up. If you believe that everything happens for a reason, as I do, then you’ll realize that perhaps it’s meant to be and that ultimately you might not end up where you were heading but that you’ll always end up exactly where you were meant to and be satisfied with that.

5 People Who Changed The World Through Extreme Compassion

What do Francis of Assisi, Beatrice Webb, John Howard Griffin, Gunther Walraff, and Patricia Moore have in common? They were radical empathizers--seeing empathy as a kind of an adventurous, extreme sport in an effort to change the social and political landscapes of their time. Daily Inspirational Quote January 14, 2015

“Learning to be alone, and enjoying it, is the most empowering gift you can give yourself.”

I’m very much a people person, and enjoy the company of my family and friends and appreciate meeting new people and getting to know them. However, I also treasure time spent on my own and am never at a loss as to how to occupy myself. Just to take myself away from the hurly burly of everyday life for a while in order to enjoy my own company and also, more often than not, to take the opportunity to discover and explore more about what interests me personally, what gives me pleasure, what enhances my spiritual knowledge.  I believe this not only benefits me but those who know me as my increased spiritual awareness is more often than not shared with them.

The Fear And Anxiety Solution

If you live with fear and anxiety, you are not alone. Anxiety is the most common mental illness in the U.S.-- more than 50 million people have been diagnosed with anxiety at some point throughout their lives. Thankfully, Friedemann Schaub gives anxiety sufferers a whole new way of looking at and addressing their condition in his book. He emphasizes that anxiety is the product of a limiting belief about ourselves and offers tools to change that vision.

Daily Inspirational Quote January 13, 2015

“An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”

The best time of day to take the opportunity to enjoy and commune with whatever Higher Being you believe in is during an early morning walk. “You time” before the day gets taken over by commitments, work, school runs, chores, errands etc. etc. etc. Get your fill of peace and quiet, stillness, tranquility and a clear head, which will stand you in good stead for the rest of the day. Most importantly of all, just feel blessed for being alive and able to enjoy the beginning of a new day in your life when anything is possible.

Just One Thing: Be Amazed

Sometimes noticing the little things make us realize how truly amazing life can be. Showing love, being forgiving and taking time to be awed by things we take for granted, like the beauty of a butterfly or the power of a hug, can be powerful reminders to be grateful. Playing With Others - Marney K. Makridakis

An Excerpt from Hop, Skip, Jump

I recently was at a hospital for a routine lab appointment and was stuck in the elevator for a short time. It was nothing dramatic — it couldn’t have been more than about five minutes — but during the time we were stuck, I had a great time with a handful of strangers. A man says to the woman next to the controls, “Hey, I thought you were driving this thing,” and everyone kind of chuckles. Then he says, “Well, is anyone serving drinks?” Another man holds up his chalky medicinal mixture — for CT-scan contrast, I imagine — and says, “I’ve got a drink!” The chuckles switch to a laugh. Then another person points out someone is carrying a urine collection jug and says, “Hey, I’d rather have that than what she’s carrying,” and suddenly we’re all just cracking up. It was a moment of spontaneous bonding with strangers whom I most likely won’t see again — although if anyone in the elevator with me on March 28, 2014, is reading this, thank you for showing ...

Finding A Playmate - Marney K. Makridakis

An Excerpt from Hop, Skip, Jump

Shortly after becoming engaged to the man of my dreams, I read about the mating habits of monarch butterflies. When they mate, they carry each other. Sometimes the male carries the female, and sometime the female carries the male. Because that is an apt metaphor for our relationship, Tony and I included a butterfly release during our casual outdoor wedding. It was a whimsical touch on a gorgeous day, except for the very unfortunate story of the butterflies who got too much sun and, sadly, turned into baked butterflies. Trust me, young lovers, you don’t want overheated butterflies at your wedding. But the symbolism of the kind of mutual support we offer each other — sometimes I carry him, sometimes he carries me — remains in flight.

The Different Types of Playmates
One of the most important aspects of the Hop phase is to cultivate relationships and enhanced experiences of personal support. In child development, various kinds of social play are identified as…

Why Play Matters - Marney K. Makridakis

An Excerpt from Hop, Skip, Jump

Chances are there is something in your life that you’d like to manifest — and it’s likely something you see as being part of your meaningful life. You might want to manifest:

•    A creative dream
•    Improvements in physical health
•    A soul mate
•    A different job or profession
•    Completion of an old, forgotten project
•    A new home
•    A meaningful community
•    Transformation of an old belief or attitude
•    A certain sum of money
•    A fantasy vacation
•    Change in the world

Of course, there are many more examples, but ultimately, manifesting comes down to momentum. Play invites you to connect to the power of momentum without even realizing it.

I believe in a world where work feels like play, and while it’s not always as easy as I’d like, I try to spend as much time there as possible. My goal is to help you identify, activate, and use the powerful intersections between play and productivity in order to manifest whatever you ...

Daily Inspirational Quote January 11, 2015

“The Universe is so well balanced that the mere fact that you have a problem also serves as a sign that there is a solution.”

It’s synchronicity in a nutshell! For example, those well-known sayings, “As above, so below”, You reap what you sew”, Yin and Yang etc., sum it up. The Universe/Life is all about balance, therefore it makes sense that there is always a solution to your problem or you wouldn’t know you have a problem in the first place! Know what I mean? It reminds me of that old adage, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” Darned if I know but somebody must know as there is always a solution or an answer. I just wish they’d put me out of my misery and let me know….

Brilliant Impersonators: Celebrating The Rip-Off

Inventors are our heroes -- the geniuses who keep progress surging forward. Copycats -- we call them pirates -- are a threat. But according to researchers, throughout human history, innovation has been fueled and sustained by imitation. Copying is the mighty force that has allowed the human race to move from stone knives to remote-guided drones. We're natural-born rip-off artists. To be human is to copy.
