US Marines Sing Impromptu Version Of ”Build Me Up Buttercup” In Iraq

By Barbara Diamond

We love to see soldiers choose moments to find joy while fighting overseas. And as we all know, music has a way of bringing people together in very special ways. “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations will forever be a classic song, but I bet you’ve never heard it sung by handsome marines on the war front — this is one rendition that’s sure to give you goosebumps!

These brothers, while overseas in Iraq, didn’t know or care that the cameras were rolling when they busted out in an impromptu sing-a-long set to the 1968 pop tune. As the marines send supplies down an assembly line, they keep themselves smiling by singing the sweet song together in unison — backup vocals and all! It’s an awesome, purely candid moment that filled my heart with such a sense of joy.

They’re buff, they’re brave, and they don’t have a problem showing their soft side. But don’t say I didn’t warn you: After you watch this video, you’re going to have “Build Me Up Buttercup,” stuck in your head all day long. Not that that’s a bad thing :)

There’s nothing greater than seeing our brave soldiers in good spirits!
