How To Stop Saying No To Your Dream
Why on earth do you keep saying ‘no’ to your dreams? More importantly, how do
you stop saying no to your dreams?
By Cornelia Shipley
I mean, I get it. You have a ton of stuff to do. Between work, family commitments, community activities, and even the occasional cup of coffee with a friend, it can be easy to put your dreams on the back burner. It isn’t like you think of this as consciously denying yourself what you want.
This is especially true for those of you who are completely overwhelmed with the day-to-day challenge of simply paying your bills. Dreams get lost in that mess, but they don’t have to. You can stay focused on your dreams even in the midst of life’s daily demands.
Stop Saying No To Your Dream
The best way to stay focused and manifest your dreams is to take at least 1 mission-critical action every day designed to achieve your dream. By taking that one action every day, your dream will not only “stay alive” but you will begin to notice signs – all designed to help you manifest your dreams.
Why you might ask? Quite simply, what you focus on has a tendency to “show up.” Have you ever noticed, for example, that when you decide to purchase a new car, that suddenly the make and model that you like the best is everywhere you look?
When it starts happening with your dreams you may think it is just coincidence, but rest assured, these events are not random; they are a direct result of your focus and action.
Taking one action daily is the absolute best way to keep your dreams alive and there are several other things you can do to accelerate your dream. Here are a few simple ideas you can easily implement that will have an amazing impact:
Connect with your why.
You have a big reason for wanting to realize your dream. Whether it is to cure cancer or become a famous musician there is some mark you want to leave on society. You have a desire to leave some legacy for your family. Maybe you just want to have an impact on your world.
Whatever your WHY – take a few moments daily to think about your why and the impact your dream will have on the world. You will be amazed at how motivated you are to take action!
Invest in yourself.
I know this may sound crazy. However, if you don’t invest in your dream, you can’t expect anyone else to either. Investing in yourself doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. You can start by getting all the free books you can from the library! As you read them, you will become an expert on what it takes to achieve your dream.
Create Community.
Share your dream with a small circle of people who will support your pursuit. This will give you a network to rely on particularly when times are tough. In addition to people you already know, look for new friends with similar interests and dreams.
It doesn’t matter if the dream is to adopt a healthier lifestyle, start a business, become a writer, or eliminate debt. Creating community will help all of you reach your goals FASTER. How you might ask? Well, by creating ongoing accountability and a safe space to share your wins and challenges.
Start Small, Dream Big.
Overnight success is typically 10-12 years in the making. You achieve huge success in life by the actions you take daily. Just because you aren’t where you think you “should” be right now, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep dreaming big.
It is easy to start small and stay small out of fear you just won’t make it. Dare to dream big. No matter how big your dream may be, if you have it, there is a way for you to achieve it!
Stay Hyper Focused
I know firsthand how big dreams can become overwhelming – to the point where you can easily derail your dream. One of the best ways to stay focused is to eliminate all your distractions. I know what I am about to say may sound radical in the 21st century and if you are willing to try it you may be amazed at how quickly you begin to make progress against your goal.
You can start by eliminating those 33 hours on average a week you are watching television – that is right that is four full eight-hour shifts a week you could be using to pursue your dreams. Add to that all the time you spend on social media and you have a full workweek back in your life to manifest your dreams (p.s. it is how the super successful create more time in their day).
Research has shown that you can only focus on 3 things at once so for your current personal and professional life as well as one for your dream, take an action each week that will move you toward your dream in each area.
Beware of your idle wants.
When you are dreaming, it’s easy to think about other things you “want” that aren’t really dreams but everyday comforts or things others want. Stay focused on your big dream and don’t let the little things distract you.
Stop seeking permission.
Remember these are your dreams. You don’t need anyone’s permission to have those dreams or pursue them. Don’t let others steal your joy, your dream, or your ambition. Lean on your supportive community who will back you 100% as you travel the road that leads to your dream.
Think about what you could create for yourself if you simply committed to doing one of these things. Now, I know I don’t have to tell you this, but as you pursue your dreams resistance will show up. It may show up in that unexpected expense or that naysaying relative.
Thankfully, resistance is only temporary as long as you don’t allow it to stop you. You may have to get a full or part-time job to support yourself and your family while you pursue your dream. Give yourself permission to get that job, but don’t use it as an excuse to put your dreams on hold.
Go forward and say yes to your dreams
Robert Kiyosaki said, “There are only two kinds of money problems: not enough money or too much money.” Unfortunately, the kind of money problem most people know is not enough money.
You may not have enough money now but you can decide that today is the last day you are going to have “not enough money problems”. You see, all change starts with a decision. So decide, which set of problems you want, those that come with more money or those that come with not enough?
Once you decide, it will be easier for you to stay focused and take action to pursue your dreams. I want to offer you one last tip to stay focused on your dreams, now it will take some sacrifice on your part but I know you can do it! Get up an hour early and dedicate that hour to pursuing your dream. It is that simple.
If you are a writer, write. Want to be a singer, then sing. If you want to start a business, begin researching the product or service you might offer, or do the research to find that retail location you can walk through after work. Regardless of the strategy you choose to use. Please commit to taking action. Your life tomorrow is created by the choices you make today so choose to live your dreams!
