Milo Runkle: Expanding Our Sphere of Concern

After witnessing the brutal handling of a live piglet brought into school for dissection, Milo Runkle discovered that the current legal system offered no recourse for him to press charges on behalf of the animal. The experience spurred him to found Mercy for Animals when he was 15 years old. Over the last 20 years, that organization has become an important group to assist in the move away from factory farming and the worst practices of animal agriculture to create a more kind, compassionate, and gentle human presence on the planet through the foods we eat. Runkle is also the founder of the Good Food Institute, a writer, meditator, and an advocate outside of farm animals for LGBT rights and for the rights of nature. "To me, when we talk about the issue of our treatment of animals and our food system, and transforming it, it really is about compassion, not just compassion for animals, but for those who are forced to do work that causes a lot of suffering." He shares more in this powerful interview.
