I believe that joy is a sign of enlightenment. From laughing Buddhist monks to merry ministers, folks who are jolly like Santa Claus are more aligned with Divine Spirit than suffering saints and other serious folks. While we may not be able to determine how wise and “spiritual” they are, we can observe the effect they have on the world around them: people who are joyful and playful radiate a divine light that brightens everyone and everything they touch.
